A new Creative Sprint CLASS! Days 1 and 2

Introduce yourself!

 Day 1 - Introduce yourself. I rubber stamped my name on a postcard multiple times. Simple. But I didn't see where to put text on this first one. Oh well. Learning curve.

Day 2 - make something to hold in the palm of your hand. In the past, I'd make a tiny folded book. This time I made a tiny mask, since I'm making masks for family members. It's for this new doll, which I got for our grandgirl. She can't come over and get it, so I'm "playing" with it. We did a zoom meeting as I opened the package and dressed the doll as she wanted me to. Fun.  And I figured out how to add text! It's a new platform for me.

How people make these tiny doll clothes is amazing. My fingers are too big!!

NEW Tea Themed Mail Art call and more EXTENDED DEADLINE!!

 My friend, Patricia, has a new location for her tea shop. In 2011, people sent in Tea themed Mail Art, which she framed and has up in her shop. Yes, she moved it to the new place. BUT I'd like her to have NEW Mail Art. SO, I'm asking you to make some to send to her.

 Here's a piece of my Mail Art. The back ground is from an exhibit card and looks warped but it isn't.  I don't know where I'll send this off to yet.

End of one project, start of another - the letters

 Here they are, all of the letters that I wrote since my previous post the beginning of Sept.

I think the only ones that I didn't have photos of were the first three envelopes. But hey! I got all the rest.

The adresses are obscured for obvious reasons.

I've heard from three people so far, via e-mail, ha ha ha, thanking me for writing to them. Sweet.

Here are the last three of the month. Whew! That was fun. And I enjoyed making note cards using either one of my collages or one of the grand-girl's drawings.

I hope they brought smiles to the recipients.

Here are four more, out of numerical order because I don't know how to move images around without starting over.

But that's not important.
I just wanted to share with you and to encourage you to reach out to people you haven't heard from in awhile, haven't seen or spoken to, or have only met on-line through one of your social media groups. It's really important to connect or stay connected. Really.

New Project for September

So I decided that I am going to write a note or letter every day the month of September. This will prepare me for participating in the October #CreativeSprint.

So far, so good. But then it's only day 5. I've sent mail to Morocco, Canada, California, New Hampshire, and Florida.

I even made some note cards using one of my SMILE collages.

Now for my pitch - Join me in the #CreativeSprint.  Sign up. It's easy. You'll get a prompt in your e-mail box everyday for a month. The Creative Sprint is over!

Here's a bit from my past month's fun with Creative Sprint. I hope that some of you will join me in April for the next Sprint. This is a global art game that my daughter created for her and her brother's business. They have a book coming out in the spring, too. I'll be promoting that for sure. BUT Creative Sprint is a lot of fun, and I got to meet a lot of new people from around the world participating in it.

  Day 29, I revisited a previous day where I'd made something in a box. My honey chose the day I was to revisit. This box has a poem in it by Adam Lindsay Gordon, which is a favorite of mine.

Day 27 was to be inspired by another sprinter, and I was inspired by Estafania Garcia, who did a melted crayon thing one day and another had her little boy recreate Munch's The Scream. Such fun doing this with my grandgirl.

Oh my dear friends, I can't believe this but I think I've got this figured out! I was just able to upload two images. Woweee.



I created the Paris one because I'm anticipating our anniversary trip to Paris in January. Yes, you read that correctly. January, where we're most likely to have weather issues. Is this crazy, or what? I'm buying travel insurance for sure.

The second piece, with the music was created this morning for my #creativesprint prompt. The prompt, to make something about one's favorite teacher.
Without a doubt, my favorite, most influential, earliest teacher was my piano teacher, Miss Rachel Marrs. She came into our home when I was a toddler to give my older sister lessons. Mom told me that I would sit by the piano during the lessons and make drawings that I'd give to Miss Marrs. I wanted to take lessons badly but was told that I had to read first, so you can bet I learned to read pretty quickly. I thought she was beautiful. She work lapel pins that were jeweled and seasonal: flowers, American flag, christmas wreath, and such. She brought a little clock with a roll up cover. AND she drove a car!!! That was a big deal, as my mother didn't drive one. Once, when I was probably about 10 or 11, Mom had me deliver some cookies to her as she lived only a few blocks away. I rode my bike over to her house and she invited me in to the living room for a few moments. Oh the thrill! She could never know the ways she influenced me.
We moved from the neighborhood when I was 16 and but I continued to take lessons from her until I was 18. I didn't realize then what a distance she had to travel to come to our home. I went off to college and we never communicated again. Later in life, I sent a letter to an address that I found for her, including some copies of old photos and current ones. I never knew if she got it, but she lives on in my memories.

The music bits are from a very old sonatina book that was my sister's before me. It's pages are yello and fragile. That is Miss Marrs handwriting.

Mail Art and my struggles

I'm still learning how to get photos onto this blog using Google Photos or from some cloud or wherever they are. I like this new Chrome Book but there are things that are different, that's for sure.

I've completed a full week of Creative Sprint. Are any of you, my blog readers, doing it, too? It's been fun.
This is a piece of mail art that I did for a prompt. The prompt was to be inspired by a children's song or a nursery rhyme. As usual, I had to let my mind mull this around. Then I started to look through my rubber stamps and found a tiny globe and a star. I, then, searched my stamp pads and found my gold one. FUN!
I'm thinking I need to do more like this.

Bear with me, I'll figure this out eventually and will get more images up and running.

For the last day, our prompt was to give ourselves and award or a trophy. I made something that would be visible to others so that I could start a conversation about the Sprint. I wore it to see a play last night and today I'll wear it when going out in public. It says "Finished" but in reality, I'll keep going with my own prompts.

 These blue cards were made as part of my #CreativeSprint. It might have been for day 10, and had something to do with water (to state the obvious) and I wrote about something that happened to my older sister.

She lived on Kalsman St. in Los Angeles many years ago, down hill from a dam. One day the day gave way and, as she was running up hill with her children, she looked back and saw a wall of water going by on the cross street below her. She said that it was amazing. She could see cars, refrigerators, and other things being carried away in that wall of water. After a bit, the water started to come up the street she was on. It stopped at the steps to her apartment building. What a story. The power of water.

 So I mad a few water cards to send out.

#61 was also done for #CreativeSprint. Day 16, which was something about making oneself laugh out loud.
And it made my honey say "heh heh" and then I said "heh heh" too. So it worked.

And I wanted to share this little "hospital" scene with you.

Dan in the hospital

Our grand-girl (3) love the little people hospital. She loves to play with it at our home. She put our nephew Dan into it when she learned that he'd gotten into some poison ivy and had to see a doctor. She has kept the '"pretend Dan" as she calls him in hospital, although the real Dan is now fine.  This really makes the real Dan laugh when we give him updates.

 Here are a few pieces of Mail Art that I recently added. The two with the b & c are ones that I'd made earlier and was going to frame but then decided to turn them in to Mail Art, so I had to fit them into the numbering scheme I'm keeping.

Creative Sprint and a couple new mail art collages

 These images were on my desk, just like this, so I put them on a blank and glued them down. I like the odd juxtaposition.

 I'm enjoying making compositions with hand, butterflies and moths. Maybe it's cause Spring has sprung in this part of the globe.

 All this month of October, I've been participating in the Creative Sprint, which is a project of Another Limited Rebellion (which happens to be the business of our son and daughter.)

It's been a wonderful challenge. I did it last April. I didn't plan to do it this time around but then I just jumped in.

Day 17

Above, Day 18, we were to make something to trade for something we wanted. Well, I always want MAIL!! So I traded for some Mail Art from another Sprinter!

Day 6, we were to make something with our eyes closed. I chose the pencils with eyes, closed and made a portrait. I even put the brush of water on with out seeing where I was doing it. I really like the results!







Day 9, we were to take something apart and make something new from it. I opened up a cracker box, made a weaving through it and then put it together inside out.

On Day 21, we were to make something and send it through the mail. Easy Peasy as kids used to say a long time ago, easy peasy for me. I made a water color landscape, put it in the Day 9 box, added a bunched up plastic bag for padding, and sealed it up all over with packing tape. It made it through the mail, arriving at it's destination today!
Yay, USPS. Three day journey only.



On Day 17, we were to teach someone how to do something. I taught people who had basic knitting skills how to make a pair of simple fingerless gloves.

I think a couple people might try it. I hope they do and show me the results.
