Mail Art Mail Art Mail Art

circa 2003
I rediscovered a small cache of my own small collages that I made when US postage was $.23. I used them as samples in classes that I was teaching. So I added something to each one, and made them into current Mail Art to send out. I'm more minimal these days.
This card was sent to a VisPo mail art call.
This card is going to a fish mail art collector.
I can't remember where I sent this one but it turned out interesting, spacially.

I sent this one to Margate, U.K. for a fundraiser for Margate Caves something or other. A community center is planned and they're raising funds. AND since my pseudonym when I was worked in reservations for a now defunct airline was Miss Margate, I had to submit. My British colleagues were much amused by my pseudonym. It was like saying Miss Coney Island to an American.
This images is from the sheet of JFK stamps put out by the USPS. My friend used lots of the stamps for a mailing and I got the part left over. You'll be seeing a lot of JFK in the future.
This collage is on a CD. I'm not sure who'll receive it, yet.

Creative Sprint and a couple new mail art collages

These images were on my desk, just like this, so I put them on a blank and glued them down. I like the odd juxtaposition.
I'm enjoying making compositions with hand, butterflies and moths. Maybe it's cause Spring has sprung in this part of the globe.
In a few days, Creative Sprint will start. It's 30 days of prompts that will put you in great creative shape.
It's free! Sign up at
Creativesprint.com

It'll be fun. There are no grades, no competition, no judgement, just a bunch of us making stuff daily and then posting it, or not, to a variety of platforms like our blogs, or instagram, or whatever.
Here's what our tree looked like last week. This week, it's all green leafy. My honey had a lot of sweeping up to do in the back yard/garden.

So much time has gone by - Mail Art catch up!

#43

#44
I won't go into the long of it, but I've been busy, and on vacation, and busy, and so on.

But I've been making Mail Art, and that's good.

Here's a few of the numbered ones.

Adding to the Mail Art - A slow but steady year.

#116
This year, I will not get 365 pieces of Mail Art completed. So it goes. I was out of commission for a bit this year, which set me back but even so, I'm no where near my usual out put.

And because of that, I'm not getting as many in-coming pieces of Mail Art. This makes for a sad mail box. SO, I'm going to get busy and ---

make more and send more. That's the solution!

Card #120 was inspired by Hannah Hoch. See an example of her work below. She's one of my favorite collage artists, and I'm a member of her fan club.

Some alterations.

2015 - #102

2015-#103
I received postcards this past week from friends who had been traveling.

The first was from Iceland.

The second from Colorado.

Of course, I had to alter them and send them back to the senders. Won't they be surprised?

Oh this is such fun to do.
Try it sometime, you'll like it.

Busy days, and Mail Art, of course.

The first three pieces of Mail Art here, I made using scraps left over from cutting out patterns for mailing envelopes. I really do like the randomness of them. The color, for me, suggest the 1920s design palette. What do you think?

The fourth card, the sea, is for an exhibit in Argentina. The theme "Lo que el Delta ve." I didn't have a clue what the curator might want, but the Delta of the Tigre river was referred to, so - water it had to be.

I used an old photo that a friend gave to me as the substrate, then added the hand and the circle.

These are all standard postcard size.

You know that I don't often share photos of our grand-girl, but, these days, she's been busy making collages, using stickers. I took her shopping at the craft store and we came away with a lot of sticker books. I find backgrounds for her to use. Here she's putting them on card stock from a paper company sample book. I love how she layers the stickers, and has no concern  if the animals or letters are upside down or right side up. I want to copy her compositions!

These are some flowers from a bit ago. I love the color and the design of them.

I had to share them with you.

Do you know what they are? I don't, but I like them.
I forgot that I wanted to show this to you. This was the post office in Duck, N.C. It was a real post office, in a crowded little space, that included all of the things listed on the sign out front. The postal worker was very helpful. He wanted to be sure I knew that postal rates were going up, which I did.

This isn't the official DUCK post office, as I think that's in Kitty Hawk, but this is the post office IN Duck.

Quaint!

#98 x 2

In just 2 days, I'll be at number 100 in my 365 project. It's pretty exciting.

My friend Kristy sent me an envelope full of colored paper squares. They arrived yesterday and, oh boy, all I could think of was - can't wait to use them for my mail art. One of these is going to Kristy and one is to a mail art call.  I really like the way the squares appear to be floating across
the background. Lots of motion in these two.

This piece of mail art, arrived today from Eduardo Cardoso in Portugal. I had to post it here because of an odd coincidence.  Last night, someone showed me something called Lover's Eyes. See some here.
I'd never heard of them before.  This piece of mail art just about knocked me over - this looks so much like one of the examples. I like that it's on the x-ray of the hand. Creepy, really fascinating, cool, and creepy! Thanks Eduardo. It's a perfect piece for me to receive.

Bright spots.

We had sun yesterday and today. Last night, it rained and the temperature went up, so today we have a lot less snow. The streets are all mushy slushy, and some sidewalks are totally free of snow. It's nice to get some clean up before the weekend when we're supposed to get snow again. The snow that decorated my tree has melted but it looked so nice with it's white frosting.
Smitty wore his Count Dracula cape for a walk yesterday. He couldn't walk too far but enjoyed the bit he did. When I got round the corner, I was nicely surprised to find a tiny hand on the pole, formerly the site of The Shelf. Plus a little note that said "good-by Bea." Hmmm.

Two of my African Violets are in bloom. I just love the bright spot in my bedroom. You can see the tree out in my back garden and the snow on the garage roof. The flowers are doing very well even though they never got watered once during the two weeks that I was in Los Angeles. I guess the soaking I gave them before I left and the soaking I gave them when I returned was all they needed. Me gusta mucho estes flores!

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
