A week of Mail Art & more

 Here's the newest bird in my home. It's made from drift wood and was given to me by a friend. It's perfect with the piece of drift wood that I collected on the Outer Banks last month.

 I made these pecan flour-y, powdered sugar-y cookies yesterday. They turned out really good. I used a recipe that was in an old Cook's Illustrated magazine. Melt in mouth good!

 My daily Mail Art this week had to do with the sad feelings that I couldn't seem to dispel. The shooting rampage in Connecticut with the loss of so many young children and the death of 10 little girls by a land mine in Afghanistan just filled me with such sadness.

 After reading about a mission that Patience Salagado thought of (read about it here) - I made some little blank books out of old topographic maps, bought some crayons, and made coloring kits in honor of Emilie Parker, one of the children who was murdered in Connecticut. It was said that she loved to draw.






I placed the basket at Dixie Donuts, because I
 think there'll be lots of children stopping by the shop.
I'll be making 10 more books to put in the basket in a few days.

Tiny Town busy-ness

 This weekend was a Tiny Town extravaganza! I altered 5 cards, what fun. The first three are #305 series using images cut from an article about Washington, D.C. in the 30s. The girls were perfect as wall sitters.

 At first, I'd thought it'd be jarring with the figures in black and white, but hey, a big person on a tiny town is pretty jarring.

 In the titles, I refer to the fact that the girls are holding balls and the residents have some fear that they'll be dropped. Can you imagine a big ball rolling down that street!?

 For the 2 cards in my #306 series, I used images that were cut out of a book on Modern Art. The book itself is falling apart so why not make use of the images, right?  This red haired green gal is from a painting by Nolde.

This crazy sky is a painting by Kandinsky. I think that occasionally the sunsets in Tiny Town might look like this. It's possible. Anything is possible in Tiny Town.

SNOW and more SNOW

The snow started last night, about 5 p.m. and hasn't really stopped since.
You can see in one photo how it looked when it first started, then in the other just a short time later. See by the light, the snow still falling. It's very cold. Right now it's 28°F according to the weather channel, and 1' to 2" more snow is expected. In some areas, there are up to 18" of it. I didn't measure but you can see from the photos that we had quite a bit.

My honey got stuck in NYC, as his plane was canceled. He was scheduled to leave last night but the earliest I could rescheduled for was Sunday
afternoon. Now with the storm headed up the coast, he may get cancelled again. Oh, dear!

My back porch door got blown open during the night. Snow piled up outside, then snow was blown onto the porch.

I made a batch of oatmeal cookie dough and invited my little neighbors from around the corner to come over and bake. Not only did they make cookies, but they tramped the snow down on my front steps (no shovel!) and they played in the back yard. Recipe for cookies here.
