What happened!

4 days after my previous entry, on the 12th of June, I had an unfortunately encounter with a cement floor.

The next morning, I was in surgery and when I came out, I had a new hip.

It's been like a strange dream, I can't believe it happened to MOI!!

While in hospital PT and OT, my hunny brought me some supplies and I made several collages.

That made me feel more myself.

I had a bunch of bits cut out and hunny brought those to me so I had good material to work with.

I'm happy I had lips and hands and eyes, amonth other things, and black paper. How convenient!

All of these are little narratives. All they need are titles, and maybe stories.

#86 reminds me of the book I started by Neal Stephenson, for some reason. It's called Seveneves.

The word is from an envelope that I received. It looked handprinted on it, and I liked it a lot so I saved it.

It was perfect for this collage on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the equality of marriage.

A new year!

#1
 Happy New Year!

The holiday season has come and gone and my wrists no longer ache from production knitting, and a new year has begun.

I decided to grab some pieces out of the tin of colored paper. My grand and I have been making circles so I have a lot of paper with holes punched out of them. Layering them makes for a lively piece of Mail Art, I think.

Working with this old colored paper is fun but frustrating in that I have to keep it really clean as it marks easily and if glue gets on it, it doesn't clean up nicely. Oh, am I a bit too precise here. It's ONLY Mail Art! And I noticed, when we saw the Matisse Cut Out show that he wasn't precise or neat. And his work is so amazing!
Our trip to New York City was really good. We saw that Matisse Cut Out show at MoMA, and M took us to the Noguchi Museum in L.I.C. after we went to PS1 in Queens. Really liked both of those museums. My first time for the Noguchi.

The weather was okay, not very cold, though rainy the first couple of days. But who cares when shoes are bright!
This is a view out a bathroom window in PS1. I was on a quest for boring photos for the Boring group that I'm part of. It turned out to be not so boring to me.  Since I've been looking for things to photograph that are boring, I've had a very interesting time. Go figure.

And FYI, summary of my Mail Art 2014 - I made and sent 256 numbered cards. I send a few un-numbered but can't remember how many so maybe I'll round up to 260. I'm pleased with that considering I'm NOT doing a 365 project.

Now, on to my resolution - getting rid of stuff daily, even it only one item. I was proud of myself, I threw away my old date stamp that didn't go beyond 2014 when I got my new one that started with 2015. I did think momentarily of the possibility of the old one being a sought after vintage item in the future. But tossed it anyway. YAY, me! Good start to 2015.

Did you make a resolution? or two?

Thursday, how'd you get here so fast?

My friend bb (aka anonymous) send me some new hole punchers. This one makes a border and since I'm not into perfection, it's all wavy. I like it! I also like the way I was able to find a punched out circle that gives a transparency effect to the edge of the black. "hello, little lady, down there!"

This card is actually a rectangle but I forgot to put a black paper behind it on the scanner. It's 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm appx)  I really amuse myself with these altered cards. This one is a lovely Harry Callahan photo. I've entitled it "Herbert and Doris enjoyed a walk in the cool water off Cape Cod." Ha ha ha ha, oh I'm tickled by this and the comments people make about it on Facebook.

Today is day 62 of my 365.2 project. I sewed some "grass" on one of the watercolor experiments from the workshop & added some pencil marks, then glued it onto a substrate. It sort of works for me. Does anyone have any suggestions about what adhesive to use when gluing watercolor paper to a backing?
This was the threatening sky last Friday night when we went to the opening of "Still Here" exhibit at ArtSpace. Gorgeous, right? And look at the old-timey factory smoke stack.
Here's the darling little "shelf"/cubby on the pole. It was missing for a day or two or three, then reappeared.  I put some shiny new pennies in it, for good luck.
This is the sign that is on the opposite side of the pole. I'm happy the little girl decided to make her feelings known.
Here's my Wednesday cloud photo. We were on the way to the airport, to get N & J.  I took this with my phone through the window. So fabulous, so awesome. So varied! All in one sky, different types of clouds. Awesome is too tame a word. Got any others for me?

On a side note: we have NO water. A problem with our neighborhood! Glad I filled some little containers with water as I'd planned to play with watercolors today. But wait, what about making a cup-o-tea? Guess I'll go out for that.

My Design Class #2

I'm having the best time with my basic design class at VMFA studio school. These adult students are terrific! Guess what their assignment was?

Black and white

Here are some images from the class that I taught last night at the VMFA studio school. It was such fun and the students, all adults, got into it quickly. They got some great results from their experimentation.

Belle Isle with Skull-a-day

Today, Noah created a skull-a-day image using people. We were invited to join him on Belle Isle for the photo shoot at 9 this morning. The pedestrian bridge is under the James River vehicle bridge and is quite dramatic. We got wonderful views of the river as we crossed over. Under the bridge, on the south side, was our staging site. You can see the image created on the skull-a-day web site. Here is a photo of the legs of the people in front of me and one of Noah on the landing with his camera, getting us into position.

Laundry day

We decided not to deal with the laundry machines in the basement of the Cite, too few machines, too many residents, and not inexpensive. Yesterday, we went to the little place next to the internet cafe on rue Jouy

The man on duty was very helpful and spoke some English. We were able to take a walk during the wash cycle and do a bit of marketing during the dry cycle. It wasn't inexpensive either, but it was stress free. And who needs stress when doing laundry!?

Note the black string bag (filet) and the neatly folded black and gray clothing. Hmmm, whose laundry could this be? ha ha ha

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
