Evening in Paris (#1)

We went to Le Tartine, a small cafe/bar in the neighborhood, which we like. We had, of course, tartines (open faced sandwiches) which we forgot to take photos of before we started to eat them. They were so good, but here's a noisette (small coffee with cream) and a bit of what the place looks like. We took a walk afterwards, checked out a little shop behind the restaurant (see us in the mirror,) and got some provisions at Monoprix, which was open late tonight because of the holiday. There were many, many people walking around. So very busy, even though there was a drizzle, then a downpour, then a drizzle, we loved it. "IT" being that there were so many people out and about. I had a very nice white wine tonight, Chateau des Correaux St. Veran. I'm going to see if I can buy a bottle of it tomorrow. Can we get it in the states? Probably not.

We saw these cute keychains in the window of a shop. "Dark Dudes" Funny, tiny dead pirates?? Je ne sais pas, mais, je le pense que ce ca."

continuing the walk

We spotted these fancy Converse shoes in a men's store window. Richt across street there is our local Monoprix. This store is aware of environmental issues, will discontinue free plastic bags in 2 years, will recycle your batteries for you, has bio cotton clothing, and more. The street was very lively with people walking, bicyclists, the carousel by the Metro entrance...I love the way the damp sidewalk reflects the lights and everything glows. We stopped for a baguette, some wine and a homeopathic remedy for me. We also found Bon Maman fig (figue) preserves, which we can never find at home. And a happy find for me, my face cream, yay! It's cheaper to buy it here than at home! So far, it's the only thing less expensive. Have I mentioned how expensive it is here for Americans?

A very long walk.

Yesterday, we decided to walk to the Tour Eiffel. It's a very long walk, but it was sunny and seemed a good day to do this. There is a photo exhibit on the Quai Branly that we wanted to see, right by the Tower, so off we went. Here are some images from our walk. Play equipment in the little Square Jean XXIII behind Notre Dame is so different, and the surface beneath it is soft and spongy. Chuck took these photos of the Stained glass window of Notre Dame, the Gold Dome of Les Invalides, and a view of the tower from rue Bosquet. On the way, we wound through lots of streets, stopping into a Monoprix, a Muji by Saint Sulpice, a Mariage Freres tea store, a boulangerie, and Bon Marché.

It turned out that it was chilly in the shade, and windy, and Chuck hadn't dressed with enough layers. Since we weren't in a hurry, it was a nice way to take a long walk.
