here's the link to the recipe, should you want to try it. It's a perfect cake for fall, though right now we are experiencing a very spring like, about to drizzle day.
Today's mail art play - use commercial postcards from my stash and alter them with only one or two images. This is series #358 (only 7 days left in the year long project!) Someone in Finland send me this card in an envelope, so there's no message on the reverse except a translation of the description. It's a vintage card reproduction.
This is a postcard that I picked up for free in Dublin, Ireland one year. I titled this one "We took a wrong turn?"
The background is a Tiffany stained glass window in a chapel in Petersburg, VA. The little Victorian scrap turned this into something like a music box for me. I don't know why, but it did.

Not at all, things hadn't changed! This past weekend, we had snow again. It started on Friday morning, at 9h30 to be exact, as I was leaving for my Spanish Meet-up group. I vowed not to take another photo of the stuff. Ugh! It snowed all night and into Saturday. White stuff on everything AGAIN! So I baked, again. I had two small sweet potatoes on hand so I made the sweet potato pound cake, only halved it. (recipe here in an older post.)I baked it in a loaf pan. It turned out really good. I froze 2/3 of it for another time. With all this baking, we could have clogged arteries if we ate it all. I did take a few photos on Saturday, of a corner of my screened in back porch and of the shells on the porch ledge, reminding me that the beach awaits us on some nice day in the future.
As I approached the Victory Farms Market stall, where I sell organic produce on Thursday mornings, I was greeted by this beautiful table. We had gorgeous produce today and it was a very windy, chilly and rainy day. Far fewer folks came out to shop, but we still managed to sell out of a few things, like carrots, cucumbers and radishes. I brought home sweet potatoes, an eggplant and a butternut squash, which I've now baked. I'll use the eggplant to make my Thai spread, the squash to make a nice creamy soup, and I'll mash the sweet potatoes. What a yummy meal on a chilly night.
We had sweet potatoes at the Farmers' Market yesterday so today I made a sweet potato pound cake using a recipe from our former CSA farmer, Caryn Phillips. This is a very delicious cake.
