A new series

 I decided to recycle some Virginia Museum of Fine Arts monthly magazines. I created this series using bits from the publication. It was a lot of fun matching faces with backgrounds. And then I just had to add a word or thought bubble. I make myself laugh when I do this. What do you think? 

Mail Art

I've been working with these three elements for awhile. A pair of glasses, a mouth, a hand. I think I did the first one in the fall of 2016.  They made me laugh so I started to collect these images from magazines.

When I was notified that Micro Galleries was doing another event, I submitted a few images to see if they'd be interested and they were.

Yay, these pieces will be seen in Jakarta, Indonesia. I hope they "translate" visually for people of a different culture.

I'll have a total of 27, and will label them with letters of the alphabet for simplicity.

I'm not sure how they'll be displayed, but they'll be kept original size which is 4" x 7" (10.16cmX17.78)

A friend sent me these postcards that she'd collected in San Francisco a few years ago.

                      I immediately set to work altering them.  As I found images to collage onto them, I found my self laughing at the captions that came into my mind.

Do you have any to offer?

Update of Thursday.

 Yesterday, after my French class, we did some errands, like laundrmat, eyeglass shop, BHV to see about printing digi prints, and stopped at a small boutique to say hello to the owner, whom we'd met a few years ago. She has a small boutique with ceramics and hand made jewelry and has this cute faced heater!

 Here are more of my tiny landscapes in progress. 2" x 3" (5.8cm-7.3cm appx) So far, I have 34 more to complete.

 When we were at Centre Pompidou the other day, I found a souvenir shop with inexpensive tourist postcard, 10 for 1,50€. I got a lot of Mona. I will go back there and get some more as I'm having such fun with them.

 The catalog for needle-point that I cut up is coming in very handy for giving Mona something to hold.

 On the way back from errands yesterday, we stopped at a bakery for a baguette and some pastry to have after dinner.

These were quite delicious. You can see that we shared them.

The young Queen

 I discovered that I had only one "Q" in my stash of letters and wasn't going to look for anymore, so one it is. A couple of days ago, I found this young Queen in one of my scraps drawers, along with her husband, but he'll have to wait for another day for his own mail art card. I, also, have lots of young Queen stamps, which worked just right for this card.

I'm a member of the Flickr group, Faces in Places, and this sweet face was looking at me from a neighbors recycle bin last Wednesday.  It has a sweet, naive, in that totally circular eye, look. Start looking around and you'll find faces everywhere.

Mail Art

 #7 was sent to someone in the Netherlands, not named so it'll be a surprise. I love the face on this image. It's from ceramic vase, the woman was holding a bird in her hand, had on a long dress with a flower print skirt. I could only fit the top on the postcard. I love the look, so sweet, so open, sort of surprised, happy. This might be one of my favorite cards.

Card #8 is one of my color experiments. I think this one worked very well as the small blue rectangles really do seem different, even on the computer screen.  I'll do these experiment cards periodically through-out the 365 project.  I have one more card to post from home, then on to the ones that I'll be doing away from home. I may not have access to the internet so posting may wait until early next week. My own anticipation of what I'll do is exciting to me.

Some pool pix and more Pockets

How peaceful the pool looked this morning. There was no one there when we arrived, as usual, at 7h50 in the morning. The water actually felt cool for a change.

Once we got into the pool, the water made these lovely patterns. They remind me of the impressionist painters.

I had to take another photo of the little "Oh, no!" face for you to see. Cute, huh?

Place Igor Stravinsky

Yesterday, we walked over to the Pompidou Centre,
to see the Giacometti show. What a treat we got to see more of those photos on a building by the fountain. The ones on the Mairie are already down, so we were happy we hadn't missed seeing these. Writing about seeing, notice the mirror on the wall in the tiny restaurant? See me in it?

Mairie 4e Photo Installation

Chuck took these photos of the 4th arrondisement Mairie (like a little city hall for the neighborhood.) Close up it's hard to tell what's going on , but from across the street, these photos are great fun to look at. There are three other locations listed, which we hope to check out. This is a joint Israeli-Palestinian effort showing people with the same jobs in the two different locations.
