I've so many other things to put up here but I can't find the images to add them to my blog. This has been a problem since using the Chrome Book. Oh the Mac was so easy, but I was not wanting to spend so much money to replace my old MacBook. Waaa. I opted for a Toshiba Chrome Book, which if you only want to do e-mails and keep documents and do google searches, it just fine. But for other things, I'm just not learning how to do them on this. oh well.

 Here's a piece of my Mail Art. The back ground is from an exhibit card and looks warped but it isn't.  I don't know where I'll send this off to yet.

This is what I did for Day 1 of Creative Sprint.  You can follow the link, click on the words, and you can join this FREE international, creativity game. It's a lot of fun. Really. You need to do this. It relieves stress and you make friends who are doing the same thing. Day one's prompt was to make something that fits in the palm of your hand from things in your immediate environment. Fun, right?

It's Wednesday! Midweek hooray!

 Hats for sale! Hats for sale! My sister makes lots of hats for little ones and hasn't any outlet for them. She sent a dozen to our grandgirl, who looks so cute in them. Now she's sent me a bunch which I'll put into my Etsy shop at some point. However, if you need a last minute gift for a baby, let me know, I've got hats galore.

Here are a pair of my mitts keeping Bad Girl Art's Keithley's hands warm. They're made from cotton and linen blend yarn. Oh, look, they kind of match her puppy!

 Chilly weather here, so tea time is anytime during the day. N gave me a lovely gift of a Tardis tea "ball." How cool. It's big enough to fill with tea for a pot but also works in a big mug with a smaller measure of tea. I love it! And that's my nice breakfast blend tea from Carytown Teas.

I'm coming into the final stretch of my 365 project - can't believe it. A relief in so many ways, but hopefully my practice is well established and I'll carry on daily in my studio.

In this series, I'm using old postage stamps to create scenes. Above, a landscape of a city with a bridge, airplanes overhead, and a bus headed for the bridge. In the one on the right, a family takes a walk in a city, visiting the sites.

I'm totally not religious but what does one do with sooo many Madonna and Child stamps! Look, a Mary Cassatt painting in the center. I like this theme, it works so well. What do you think?

Home, we're home!

 I've been home since Friday night, and today, I am feeling like I'm home again. The weekend was a blur - time change, feeling tired in the evening, getting adjusted, but I managed to get in some long walks, which was good. The weather here is nice, spring-like, with flowers blooming.

We were greeted by our family, who had a nice dinner waiting for us. So sweet!

Our daughter made a pitcher of these, and while I don't usually drink them, I had one and it was good! Welcome home!

And I got to the post office and bought some new stamps, since the price had changed during my time away.

 Last night, I finished working on a piece of mail art that I made in Paris but never sent. It was all smudgy, so I took at it with some ink and made it look more cartoon-like. I like the action and think it turned out quite energetic.

 I made this one last night to send to my French teacher in Paris. She'd made a wonderful dinner for us our last night there. So lovely. The food was amazing and served in tiny dishes and tiny glasses with tiny spoons, tiny portions - except for the yummy potato dish, which was the main course. We all were given a generous portion. I wish I had some good photos to share but I was too busy oohing and aahing and eating.

This morning, I walked to Spa310 to get my hair cut, and happily reconnected with the folks there, caught up on news, looked at baby photos, read the local free newspaper.  M. walked over and met me. We went into Carytown Teas to get some more of their good tea, and got to chat with Patricia. I'll be able to practice my French with her, so I won't lose it. You can see and hear her on the link.

We spotted this cat sitting on some literature. It's name is Carytown Cat! See how sunny it is today?

So Long Istanbul & Mail Art #116, 117 & 118

 Images from our days in Istanbul. One day, we opened the apartment door, and saw this cat eyeing us suspiciously.  There were cats everywhere in Istanbul. We would see food and water left out for them, and at times, see cats congregating in an area waiting to be fed perhaps.

 A dessert sampler plate at Saray on Istiklal Cad. We got only one, and then had to order a second as these were so delicous.

 This is Chuck inserting a token into the turnstile so that we could take the tram at Tophane.

This is the tram that we'd be riding on. They're so modern and easy to use. I am envious of localities with public transportation like this. Envious!

 This is the inside of the Sultanhamet mosque. The tiles are really amazing. One can't get a good closeup of them so postcards are the answer. We entered after prayers, though there were still some people praying. It's an active mosque and we heard the prayer to call earlier.

 Emin Percussion is a small shop with lots of drums, dumbeks, and what we in the U.S. would call tambourines, but are really hand drums, like riqs. The man sitting sideways, seen through the doorway, played them for us when we stopped in earlier in the day. He was so good and what a treat to hear live music in that little space. I wish I'd gotten a close up as the musician was playing but I was too enthralled by the music.

 Here is the typical tea in glasses. This cup was from when we were outside of Aya Sofia, with Katerina. We had many, many glasses to tea during out visit to Istanbul.

 Along the Bosphorus, as Julien was taking us up to the Black Sea. Asia is other other side and there's a big tanker in the water headed north.

 This is an old fort situation where the Bosphorus  meets the Black Sea. It was an amazing feeling standing there looking out at that body of water. In the near distance were ships waiting to enter the Bosphorus and on the other side, was the part of Europe that my father came from. I got a bit emotional thinking about that. Sorry this is blurry. Chuck took some really good one, which I may post later.

These are the last pieces of Mail Art related to Istanbul. I had to take them to France to me, since I had no time to get to the post office to buy stamps or mail these. The last one was on the way,  via Lufthansa to Munich, for our connection to Paris.

Tea Time and baking day.

 This is what I had after baking today. I made corn bread from a package called Miracle Maize cornbread and Muffin Mix. I never tried it before, the company's been around since 1903, so I figured I'd give it a try. The corn bread was delicious! I, also, made Mexican brownies (with cinnamon in them) topped with a really delicious frosting of cooked brown sugar & butter (and some other stuff.) This was part of the Chili dinner that I'd donated to the Richmond Peace Education Center auction last November. The purchaser called for it for today. The dinner consisted of vegetarian chili, corn bread and brownies.
Since the purchaser lived nearby, we walked over with the food in a red basket, very Little Red Ridinghood, no?

 I buy my eggs from a woman who lives over in Surry County and raises hens and bees. These are not factory eggs. They come in all sizes and colors. This dozen had a pale greenish-blue egg amongst the browns. Pretty.

Yes, Richmond has snow again.

On Thursday, the sun was shining, it was windy but not so chilly. I took a mile walk to Spa310 to get the entries that came in for the mail art call. See it here and send us something. I, also, stopped in and visited Patricia and Misty at the tea shop, here. I was feeling good. The walk home was nice, especially nice to see the plants in my front rock garden looking so ALIVE!
But that was two days ago, today, the snow is coming own steadily and the temperature is -6C/22F. I will surely have the opportunity to take more photos with the snow piled even higher on the back garden table. Luckily, I bought supplies yesterday to make some cold weather meals. I'll share!

Tea time

I treated myself to a sweet little teapot at Carytown Teas. I spotted it the other day when I stopped by to see new entries to the Tea Time Mail Art show. Don't forget to send us an entry.

It was gray and drizzling. A cup of Barry's Irish tea made in my new pot, poured into my old lustreware cup, lovely!

Art stuff

I spent most of yesterday morning, no, actually, ALL of yesterday morning, finishing up my Art-o-mat pieces so I could mail them off to Clark at Artists in Cellophane before we left for our trip. I stuffed all the boxes with shredded paper to give them some additional weight, making sure they'll drop down the machine without problems. There are 53 pieces in this box. Woo Hoo!!

I had sent a piece to the Mail Art show, We Are One Human Family, and found that my submission had been posted on-line. This project is in honor of Dr. MLK jr. There's still time to submit, if you're interested.


I posted a mail call on the Mail Art Projects blog yesterday. It's all about tea, for a show that will be in a tea shop here in Richmond. Check out the site to see details and also see all of the calls for entries. I'm planning on working on submissions to shows while I'm in residency with Chuck at the Cité again. I'm inspired! Now, to pack up all my supplies.
