Blue day

This is an Add and Pass card I made today. I'm sending it to a young cousin to see what he'll do with it. I love when young people particpate in mail art. They have such a free feeling for it. It's refreshing. I'll post the results.  I used a cancelled stamp from Greece as I thought it looked great with the blue background. The background is a commercial card. The stars are map stickers and the car is a 404 from an old French car magazine.
A blue sky the other day and nice clouds. I shot this from my open car window with my old school flip phone.
The aqua of the salt water in our association pool. Really beautiful on a sunny day last week. I love the patterns made by the sun and the movement of the water.
Such different blues today.

Big Old Cars (#46 series)

"move them here"
I found more big, old American cars in my large tin. What a find. I used old (1970s) U.S. and Canada road maps for the background. For some reason, I thought these called for a contrast in transportation.
"move them there"

I made myself laugh using these two images that I had of the same event. I knew that I had to put these guys to work pushing people around. Notice that "sledge" has NO wheels. What the heck! And all the while, a very large auto is looming in the background.
"from Coldstream to Pinch Creek"

Large American car, tiny oxen cart. Let's see, which one will be most effected by the higher price of fossil fuel. Hmmm.

There really is a place with this name in New Mexico, USA. See it there on the map?

The #38 series and a cool shadow.

Add caption
I didn't get down to making Mail Art until this afternoon as when I awoke I was feeling like my cold was getting worse. I stayed low energy and pumped myself with homeopathics and tea. By Afternoon, I felt like going into my studio to make some art.  I started with some of my topographical maps as background and then using the 3 rule (a section of color counting as one) I made these three in the #38 series.
It was fun to find that I had more legs in my stash and more cars. I have even more cars to use up.   It'll be interesting to see what I make at the end of the year, when most of the scraps are gone. Right? I'm assuming that I'll use it all up.
Looks like this man is dropping down into the convertible!
We're having some work done in our house. Yes, more work. This time, we had the window on the west side of the house covered over with wall board. It looked out on the house next door, only 24" (61cm) away from our house, so we had a shade on it. Now it's just a plain wall and we'll put up a display shelf. When I walked past the ladder today, the shadow looked so nice to me that I had to photograph it.

A BIG mail art day.

Road Trip
I was so happy this morning to discover in my stash of paper, a "map" from 1998, for low altitude airplanes to use when flying over the carribean and Central America. Very cool document! I decided to cover a lot of cards (okay, only 5) with this as a base to work on. Then I decided to just look for 2 or 3 elements to add to each card.

I read on someone's blog yesterday, a quote from an artist (can't remember blog, can't remember artist) that said something like "if you have 4 elements use 3." So I did.

The background was busy enough, right?  I am really determined to use up my scraps during this project. Lucky me, found these airplane stamps, in duplicate. They work so well for this map.
What's your story?

I'd had this pair of legs for awhile, ditto the doll head. They form some kind of narrative, but you'll have to supply the story yourself.  The stamp came off of a package from Anke, photographer extraordinaire, from Germany.

This woman has a story, I'm sure. I liked the way the orange piece of paper made her pop off of the background.

Necessary Mail Art

Happy Birthday, lil' Cuz

#9 Polbo

Stamped envelope
I had to keep making mail art today. I was feeling some acheyness in my jaw from my root canal and feeling sad about my friend. Mail art making was very soothing.

It was fun to try some more color experiments.

I was looking for just the right images for another birthday greeting today. I wanted something that reflected the interest of the receiver a bit. He has a fish tank so this worked out just right for me. I'm happy with the composition.

The Polbo issue #9 is one that I participated in, a project of Carlos Botano in Galicia, Spain. His envelope had lots of good artist stamps on it, too.

Support the Troops & more Mail Art (of course)yum!Y

Yum!
Some of you may know that I'm a volunteer with an on-line group called Books for Soldiers. It's time for me to do more boxes as I have lots of books, donated to me by friends and neighbors. Plus, my neighbors, laid a big surprise on me over the holidays - a check to help with my personal project. I went shopping today, after having to do something sad (related to the Cremation Society, no more to be said on  that) and buying things for troops made me happy. Here are some of the things that I'll be putting in the boxes, along with books.

More Yum
Beef Jerkey is a biggie, I'm told, though I never hear from the recipients themselves. I try to find candy that won't melt (duh) and stuff like hand sanitizer and razors. Gotta be needed, right?
Happy birthday, Nephew!

Happy birthday Mercedes!
I decided that today's cards (#35 and #35a) will be birthday cards. I was happy to find these 1970s American cars (huge!) I think I might have a few more 1960's and 70s in my stash, so you'll see more of these car cards.  Having fun, making more Mail Art.

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
