Guess what? More Mail Art!

#125

I wasn't going to write anything about these. I was just going to let them speak for themselves, but I wanted to ask you if you have

Sunday eMail Art

a favorite among the altered Mary Cassatt cards.

This piece, labeled eMail Art, is another of the pieces that uses the same scraps but rearranged, photographed, and posted but never glued down. I'm having fun doing that and then e-mailing them to people to whom I can't post mail to for various reasons.

Mail Art, of course, and more NYC.

#56
Here I use my current favorite elements, a person lower left looking off "camera", dots and Washi tape. What fun! The color of the large area is not gray, it's actually a green. My scanner didn't do a good job of capturing this.

Here is one of my attempts at watercolor (colour, for my Brit friends.) I took a workshop yesterday, with my friend Rudi, who was very encouraging. I liked it. I have to practice a lot, but I think I can do this. It'll be a nice switch from my usual cut & paste.

So what do I do today, day 58? I go back to cut and paste. I couldn't resist this. I've been looking for this fish, which got lost in my scraps, and just found it today. It went perfectly with this very old postcard. Since it called for a one cent stamp, it's gotta be from the turn of the last century.
Now for some food photos from our New York Trip. This delicious quiche was eaten a 103 Monument Lane in the West Village. YUM!
On Sunday last week, we celebrated our daughter's birthday by walking around a lot! It was a gorgeous day for a walk. We went down to the parks on the Hudson  River, we went to restaurants, we checked out shops, and my honey followed some music and found an event in the courtyard of Westbeth. Great surprise. Good music, including the Bob Dorough trio. Bob did the music on Schoolhouse Rock. In case you don't remember it, check it out. He sang  "Three is a Magic Number" which was such a treat!
This little girl was busy creating art with a gigantic stick of chalk while the music was playing.

Here's some chill refreshment I had at lunch that special day. It was quite tasty!
This is a creamy tomato soup that I had at Sarabeth's Tribeca restaurant. It was   near where we ended our walk along the Hudson River Park. When we saw the place, we decided to have an early dinner there. The recipe isn't posted on their site which is too bad cause I'd sure like to replicate it. I've never had such a delicious creamy, chunky tomato soup. Got a good tomato soup recipe for me? Anyone?

Necessary Mail Art

Happy Birthday, lil' Cuz

#9 Polbo

Stamped envelope
I had to keep making mail art today. I was feeling some acheyness in my jaw from my root canal and feeling sad about my friend. Mail art making was very soothing.

It was fun to try some more color experiments.

I was looking for just the right images for another birthday greeting today. I wanted something that reflected the interest of the receiver a bit. He has a fish tank so this worked out just right for me. I'm happy with the composition.

The Polbo issue #9 is one that I participated in, a project of Carlos Botano in Galicia, Spain. His envelope had lots of good artist stamps on it, too.

Snow day & mail art

The snow fell through the night and morning. The yard, as always, looks so pretty to me, with snow covering it.

I could have used the same photos from last year, right? But I didn't. This is today's version.
The wires are like white lines across my yard. It's very quiet. No one is out and about. I threw some crumbs out for the birds and I see evidence of their having visited, with little prints on the snow.

Dog with color experiment

Today's Mail Art continues with the color experiments. I didn't have anymore of these fish, but I found this fine dog. I'm sending the dog card to someone whose name is sort of connected to dogs. I don't want to reveal it at this time in case, the recipient reads my blog. This is pretty mysterious, right?

#25 & 25A of 365 Mail Art

"fish with color experiment"
I was really looking forward to making today's card. I had no idea until I sat down at my work table, what I'd make. I started with a background on two blanks. I used paper from a "newspaper" about Marimekko that I picked up at CB2 in New York City. It has several pages of full sheets of patterns that I'll be using up. I then decided to use a couple of these fish that I'd cut out of an old encyclopedia type of book. They were so colorless that i decided I needed to do more color experiments with them.

Overall, I'm pleased with the way this pair turned out.
I think the color experiments worked well, too.
What do you think? Can you see the color changes?

Mail Art

Here's #4, a butterfly, which went off on the 4th of Dec. to someone with whom I've had correspondence for awhile.  I didn't have a little round number 4 to put on it. It's been great to use the numbers that I saved ages ago in a tiny tin. I think they came off of a little calendar. I have enough now to do the full 31 first days of this project. After that, hmmm, I'll be rubber stamping maybe.
The color experiment, based on Josef Albers interaction of color, came out sort of okay on this card. If you stare at the space between the two color swatches you can kind of see that the rust color rectangle on the left is brighter than the one on the right. Can you see that? Kind of see it?
I really like the way this card turned out. It's going to a person with whom I've corresponded and I "discovered" that one of her Mail Art on going projects involves fish. I found the image in a book about Virginia wild life. Unfortunately, I didn't cut out the label telling me the name of this fish. Can anyone identify this fish?

Back home in Virginia!

I arrived home very late Monday night and because of the time difference, I didn't get to sleep until 3 a.m. which meant that I slept until noon on Tuesday. I was feeling such jet lag that I gave myself 2 days to recover. Wow, it was like a vacation, though I was feeling badly that my sister is back to her 24/7 mom care. At least, we had two weeks to have some laughs, and some relief from doing it all by herself.

In among my pile of mail were lovely postcards and letters from my correspondents and Postcrossing, and also this water color fish by my young neighbor.
My son and his girlfriend had been to India and brought me this cookbook and rupee note. I can actually make some of the recipes in it. The rupee note will be collage material, for sure.

I pulled out this can of Spotted Dick, which was given to us by our neighbors. I'd heard of this dessert (jokes about the name) but had never seen it nor eaten it. I'm thinking that this weekend will be a good day to heat it up. We're supposed to get a terrible snow storm. Hard to believe but I may be posting more snow images.

I'm glad to be home!

Elflog update..last year, this year

Sunday, 30 Dec. 2007, was a very rainy day. The shelf was soggy but the fish pin was dry in a plastic bag. Wednesday, 2 Jan. 2008, was gray with a flurry of light snow and the shelf was so festive. It shouted HAPPY NEW YEAR to me! I was delighted to see it looking so great this morning.

More from Ireland

A sight in Temple Bar, Santa! We came upon this last supper by John Byrne, in a pedestrian walk area, north of the river Liffey. The models he used are local people, from different walks of life.

The fish and chips I had for lunch were very yummy.

Here's a view of a closed off pedestrian shopping area, which was PACKED with shoppers. Notice, the sign is in Gallic.

Later that night, we went to see a dance performance based on R.D. Laing's book KNOTS. It was energetic and powerful.

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
