 Here are a few pieces of Mail Art that I recently added. The two with the b & c are ones that I'd made earlier and was going to frame but then decided to turn them in to Mail Art, so I had to fit them into the numbering scheme I'm keeping.

Some fun news!

 This is the atrium of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA.) I took this photo when this new space first opened. It looks the same though it's usually always filled with people now. The museum is open 365 days of the year and is free of charge except for special exhibits. How nice, right? We love hanging out there.

AND here is #1 FUN NEWS!
 I will, once again, host  Slow Art Day at VMFA.

Participants will meet me at the museum on Saturday,  11 April, at 11 a.m. and view 5 works of art for an hour. Then we'll convene at the Best Cafe, at noon,  for an informal conversation about the experience. I'm excited to be doing this again. Fun Thing #2 - I'm so happy to be participating in The Sketchbook Project again. I missed the deadline because I wasn't being mindful, but then, the deadline was
e x t e n d e d!
Lucky me! Hooray.
So here's the cover and the first page. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to do before starting so that it's all come together for me.
It's minimal, as usual. 
  I'll show more pages eventually, or tomorrow.

Final update and Slow Art Day 2013

 On Friday, I picked up scraps out of my little box of color scraps and just put together colors that felt like spring time, since it's finally arrived. The companion piece, for some reason is below. I can't move images around which is frustrating at times.

 These are today's Mail Art. I got a nice compliment from my honey - he wanted to frame these but I'd already designated them as Mail Art so off they must go. I'll make another one or two especially for him.

 I got a lot of paper samples from my son recently and these are some of them. I liked the way they looked on the cardboard substrate. I'm thinking of these as coming together, moving across a divide, having a conversation. What do you think?

 This cute little turtle is the logo for Slow Art Day, and this year I'm once again hosting an event at The Virginia Museum of Fine Art. It's going to be Saturday, 27 April at 11 a.m.

I had to show you a close up of some of the plants in my front garden. It's the time of the bursting out of the Star of Bethlehem plants. They add such a woodland touch to the plantings. I love them.

Mail Art, Slow Art, Bird Art & Billboard Art!

 Here's a recent piece of Mail Art that I sent out to Dusseldorf, Germany. I used some old photos that had no value to me, though torn up as elements for a collage - high value indeed. The base is from a package of veggie burgers.

 Here's part of the group who attended my Slow Art event last Saturday. They're looking at a tiny landscape painted in 1820.

 Here's another part of the group looking at a painting that is very "trompe l'oiel" called "Free Sample, Take One." It was painted in 1890 by De Scott Evans.
My event was successful! We had 21 participants and the discussions were lively. My choices were obscure and people seemed to like that they hadn't seen, nor ordinarily look at, the art work that I chose. It was a lot of fun.

 Sunday, we went over to HighPoint Gallery, which was new to us. They are the folks who do the Bill Board Art project.  While there, we got introduced to Premium Taxidermy and were invited into Robert Olson's workshop. It was so interesting. He does amazing work.

 I found out later on in the day, that there was an event going on in the world on Saturday that was called Obscura Day. We felt like we had an obscura day of our own by seeing a taxidermy workshop.

After see Robert's work, we went off to find the access to see this Art Billboard. So cool, off the beaten track, for sure. When we pulled in to the area, some people were packing up their folding chairs into their vehicle. They'd been sitting there
watching the display for awhile. Fun, right.

This was a very interesting week-end, full of very interesting things to see. I hope you had a good weekend, too.

D.C. day & Slow Art Day

 I went up to D.C. on the train yesterday to meet my PenPal Juli. She took some terrific photos while we were at the National Postal Museum.

Here I am stamping the commemorative cancellation on postcards for the exhibit about the Hindenburg and the Titanic. We loved being able to use that stamper.

 Here I am, making mail art on a display table. It was just the right height and was there for people to put post-it notes with their thoughts on the museum and the postal system. I had my mini-mail art kit with me.

 Me, attempting to take a photo of Owney, the postal dog. The glass had such glare on it but Juli managed to get me and Owney together.

I'll post some photos of the Cherry Blossoms. We had a wonderful walk amongst the trees, in the afternoon.

A future event - Slow Art Day

The time has come to make my announcement and I thought I'd start here. I'm hosting Slow Art Day in Richmond, VA! I signed on to be a volunteer for this in my city. It happens 28 April 2012 and I'll be hosting it at my wonderful Virginia Museum of Fine Art. To sign up for the event, should you be in the area, go here.  I listed it for 3 hours but am thinking that maybe 2 will be better. I've written to find out about changing it up. In any case, I'll post information closer to the date and will be in touch with all of those planning to attend. This is exciting. These events will be held all around the world on that day. How cool is that?
