Having FUN!

I sent one or two of my altered landscape postcards to Elke Grundmann, in Germany, over the years. She sent me some in return. I decided to add to her card and return it to her. Maybe she'll alter it again and return it to me.  I added the peeking person.

I had a lot of fun putting together three things.

#118
Sun glasses, lips and hands. These two cards make me smile.  Especially #118 for some reason. Is there one that made you smile more than the other?

As I mentioned before, I was doing a bit of studio cleaning up, and found a couple of Sark sheets  that I couldn't throw away. I sent one to someone with out altering and then decided to make one into an Add and Pass sheet. I hope it gets back to me eventually so I can see what people added to it. Do any of you remember Sark. She was sooo popular for awhile.

My friend Erni Bär, in Hamburg, sends me collages - 100 years of DADA -  and I've been altering them and returning them to him. He seems to enjoy what I do with them. He posts them on Google + .

Here's his most recent send to me, and what I did with it. I'm pretty pleased with my alteration.

I'm continuting with my eMail Art. This one is from last week. I'm making frequent use of the cut out ART and the arms.
So here's a photo of the wall at the exhibit at the Guggenheim NYC, where we were a few weeks back. We went up specifically to see two exhibits. DadaGlobe at MoMA and this exhibit.

We were very emotional about it. My husband and I both did our foundation art year together at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Our instructors were people who had studied under Moholy-Nagy at the school he created, The Institute of Design.

Going through the exhibit, we could see how much he influenced our own work. I said to my husband - We're his grandchildren!! Our design lineage. It was quite emotional actually seeing where we came from.
Have you ever had this kind of experience?

Some more Mail Art plus....

#67
This #67 was part of a #CreativeSprint day, where I showed, in a series of images, how to make a piece of Mail Art.
#60

#60 was a #CreativeSprint, where I got inspiration from some mail. It was an article from EWG about the pesticides used in conventional strawberry growing.

#62
#62 was day 17 of #CreativeSprint. It was about writing a poem, which I'm not good at so I cut a bunch of words out of a magazine, randomly, as much as possible, but of course I was making choices. I then arranged them into this Poem - THINKING, All looked, Embracing the good. See See, Feel this Life. Be bedcoming THE spring.
Not bad for a non-poet, I'd say.

In #66, I cut up a large pieces of Mail Art that I'd received awhile ago from my Mail Art friend in Hamburg. It was on firm cardboard but I was able to get it cut up into some varied sizes. I added the playing card, the cat and the lips, and sent it off to Erni.
Here's the Grand-Girl, Miss Z (3), who decided she was going to call me "M" and spells out my name.

She's sitting in the antique high chair that we got in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in the early 1970s.
It's her art chair upstairs. She's drawing doughnuts. She's never eaten one but she has a good idea what they are.

I received some mail art from Keith Chambers. Including a beautiful page of faux postage commemorating DaDa.

I had to frame it and display it.
What fun to make, send and receive mail that is not a bill or an advertisement.

Catching up on Mail Art midweek, and a bit more.

I'm happy that I took the time, one evening to just sit still and cut out some of the Victorian scrap repros that I have. This makes it so easy to just find the right vintage postcard to set them into.  I'm happy with this lot of four, how the figures fit nicely into the view.

I posted #322 on Facebook and someone looked up the original image, found the postcard on eBay! Oh my, it's got a bit of value but I think it's been made more valuable by my making it into Mail Art.
#323
What do you think? Should I spend time researching which of my vintage postcards might have value? Like $3.29 usd, then scan both sides and post and then mail if I get a sale, spend the postage and time, and then the % to eBay?
What do you think?

I like the way the color on the Victorian scraps works so nicely with the color on the old postcards. Oh I'm feeling so positive about these. They remind me of my Tiny Town days.

This card is so clunky to me. I was in a rush. I had the Victorian scrap and the piece of paper with the hole on my table top and just went with it. Clunky. I added some text, which sort of helps. Some days are just like this. Clunky. Have you had Clunky days?

On a cheery non-clunky note - here are the babies. Zinn was 8 months old 2 days ago and N. did a photo shoot of her in his studio. It's about time she got to play with the tools of the trade!  And there's Bizoo, sleeping on the sewing table, near my gift from Erni.

No more boxes, Mail ART!

#268

#269
13 days ago, I wrote my last post. Since then, I've been busy emptying cartons and putting the contents away, tidily, in my studio space. I'm so happy.

I continued to make my daily Mail Art.

Here are 6 of the pieces. They are a collage mixture.

This card was made specifically for Erni in Hamburg, because he sent me a really cute toy! A big surprise. See below.

I made this one as a prompt, for myself, to see the things that are funny in life and not focus on the nasty political atmosphere in the U.S. right now.

Here's the pull toy that Erni sent from Germany. It's the wolf by Keith Haring, and it's so cute. He got it at a flea market for a low price but postage made it an expensive gift. I sure loved getting it.

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
