The shelf is filled with stones that I wrote on. No one has taken one home but people have added natural objects, the black walnut shell, the stick and today a small magnolia seed pod. On Friday night, I met a friend at the Folk Life Festival who introduced me to a neighbor who is an ELF! An "elf" is a person who adds to the shelf anonymously, of course. She had added a long, glass bead. It's on a nail above the shelf, not seen in this photo. I was so happy to meet another elf.
This afternoon, I saw that the previous item I'd hung on the post had been taken. It was a "found-art Weathergram." SO this evening, I placed Postcard 103 on the shelf. Can you see how the sun was setting and giving such a nice light to the pole? The shelf is a riot of tiny beads, jewelry making fittings, a U.S. penny, a U.K. coin, the "art matters" stone and the shell are still in place. It's all very festive.
The New Shelf is still going strong. I posted on the post a small collage, which was gone in a day, which I liked, though no one comment on finding it on the Real Small Art blog. Oh well. I've started to write on stones again and put them out. The wire "writer" made a sweet little flower and wrapped it around the stone I made which says "art matters." I'd drawn a tiny flower on the stone, too. There's a chick on a stick, made out of metal, which i think is a garden ornament. The ribbon, the shell, the art postcard remain, real flowers get added, as well as small items. These pix were taken last Saturday. Since then a small plastic dish with beads in it has been added. It remains a very festive shelf and pole!
The shelf was bare when I checked on Thursday of last week, but I looked at the pole and saw that someone had added some beads. Friday, Ryan came to spend a couple days in Richmond. He loves to walk Smitty with me and to check out the shelf. We made some Real Small Art to put on it. You can see him placing his little art work on a sunny afternoon.

On Saturday last, the shelf was a bit enpty, but on Monday!! Oh, so interestingly, someone had put a tinful of little beads, old buttons, odds and ends of shiny things on it. Today, some of the little sparklies were on the sidewalk. My guess, a little person (my 3 year old neighbor maybe?) had taken a peek in the box and spilled a few bits.
