Snowy days

I am always attracted by paintings of snow scenes, especially urban ones by the Impressionist painters. I think they remind me of growing up in Chicago, where the snow was abundant when I was growing up there. Well, I had my childhood memories come to life. These are scenes from my walk with Smitty yesterday. The alley behind our house, a street, our neighbors flag, another neighbors porch, and our dog straining to get home. I couldn't take any more photos as my camera froze and I was ready to get home too. I must add that Smitty is so low to the ground that he was hoping through the snow to keep from having to be immersed in it too long. He couldn't wait to get into the house. You should have heard him "huffing." And here, too, is my reflection, me, all bundled up with leg warmers and a hat with ear flaps.

Los Angeles

Here's an assortment of images from my L.A. trip. My sister and I made cupcakes for mom's first party. We were very pleased with the way we decorated them. I even used one as a prop to show off the tiny tree (friends' Maddy and Fil's Christmas card) which I'd had tucked into my card case. Mango, my sister's cat, was enjoying a siesta on my coat. The Victorian building is such an odd site in the San Fernando Valley, every time we go past it, I'm struck by the strangeness of it. I took this image of the palm trees as I waited to board the Flyaway bus from Van Nuys to LAX for my flight home. I enjoyed the warm weather (80 F - 28 C) and visiting with family, and seeing Mom be so happy with the attention she received on her birthday.

In Los Angeles

I'm still in Los Angeles. It's a sad day for me as a dear friend died this morning, in Richmond. I'm sad not to be there. I'm posting my drive-by LA photos and a blurry photo of my friend and I that was taken last January at my anniversary party. It's kind of odd, I know to be posting these images of scenery with my friend's photo, but I'm having a hard time dealing with this and am softening my own thoughts by switching my focus back and forth, to past and in the moment.

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
