Some collages - Mail Art, not sure.

One of these was framed and donated to an art auction for the nearby elementary school our kids attended.

I can't remember which, at the moment.

The others might be framed and put in an exhibit, or not. They may eventually become Mail Art.

All, I know is that I'm having fun with hands, moths, and butterflies.

Spring is in the air!

A tulip!
I've been making my Mail Art, collages, alterations, etc. and having fun with them. I haven't been posting because I've been busy keeping up with my Bicycles mail art call. HERE.
And preparing for and presenting my Slow Art Day 2015 event. It's my 4th year as a volunteer, hosting at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, which has nothing to do with the event at all. Just me and my friends and new friends, the participants. It's a lot fo fun and happened in over 200 locations this year. Woo hoo.

Monday, Mail Art and more!

#224

I'm still making water color Mail Art. I feel like I have a better idea of how to handle the non-waterproof ink.

This is yesterday's, which I felt was too pale, so I did a bit more with today's. I'm excited about this series.

This morning, it was overcast when we went to the pool. I like the way the light worked in the photo of these flowers. Kind of dramatic!

I took this photo before C. got into the pool and disturbed the stillness. I like the reflections very much.

Here's our little Z this afternoon. I stopped by and got to spend a bit of time with her. She seems to recognize that she's seen me before.

When I stopped working on the computer for a minute, Bizoo strolled over, lay down on the keyboard, and promptly fell asleep. How nice take a nap wherever, whenever.

Mail Art, send & received, and some clouds

This is the page that I did in a collaborative art book that was started by Fleur, then went to Adamandia, and now I've sent it on it's way to someone in California. It was really fun to work on this.
Look how huge this blossom is! It's on a fence around the corner from my house. A giant!
We had dinner with 4 friends the other night and had the most yummy food. The main course was salmon wrapped in filo dough. We didn't know it until that night that the woman who made this had been a caterer for 20 years. What?! I contributed some potato soup, which was served in lovely cups with saucers under them. Very fancy though we weren't a fancy crowd at all.
This is one side of a Mail Art collage that I received from Guido. I love how the depth works so well with the three elements.
You know how I love clouds. Thee were over the old FFV building. One of the few water tanks in town is on top of that old bakery/factory, which is now empty.

Mail Art update and a bit more

More of my woven map pieces done over the past few days. I like the way the black background makes the map pop off the surface.
The black stitching definitely reads as line and I like that. Like a path, a route.
I decided to give the line some meaning, not be just wandering but rather the flight of a butterfly.
It's appropos, the butterfly, right now, as another of our colleague/friends has passed on, as "they" say. His spirit is off with the butterflies now.
This is this morning's Tiny Town card, a big visitor from 1965. What is he thinking, what is that expression? I'm not sure, nor do I think the residents of Tiny Town are. They appear to ignore him.
In this one, the woman is so in the face of the little riders. She's just beaming at them. I think her sunglasses would be annoying to them, or at least, distracting.
This lovely flower was on the table at a restaurant where we had lunch the other day, and learned that our colleague was in hospice. Yesterday, he died. It was so quick that we didn't get the chance to visit, so it goes.

Here's to you, old friend!

#196 and Duckie and a flower

Here's Marie, she's come into the lodge from her trip to Hawaii. She sees his hat, the letter and the dead birds on the door.  What's the rest of the story?  This altered card is a trompe l'oeil painting.
The flowers at the pool are lovely. Douglas is in charge of the flora and does a great job of it. Someone else is taking care of bird feeders. This morning, there was a cardinal and some tiny birds there, and a small squirrel trying to figure out how to get some chow, too.
Duckie was minding his/her own business in the pool, facing away from the chattering of birds and squirrel. The water was pleasant and the air a bit chilly but after 2 days away, it felt good to get back to water exercise.

Mail Art #188 + and more

A nice big daisy to take my mind off of my toe! I stubbed my toe really badly. I was walking around barefoot and my kitchen chair got in the way! I slipped on a shoe and now don't want to look at my toe in case it's, ya know, really messed up. OUCH!!
Glad I made my Mail Art early this morning after going to the pool. This one is entitle: "Polly, eyes straight ahead, rushed past Dobbin, who glanced at her apprehensively."
This one is entitled: " As Dobbin was led to the barn, Blanca waited with flowers for him."  Dobbin seems like an old-timey horse's name. This card presented a bit of a challenge for altering. I think I have one more of them to play around with. Any ideas for me?
The water was very chilly at the pool this morning. Brrrrr! But we slooowly got into it and did our exercises. I wish I had some cold water to put my foot into now. Think I'll pop an ice pack on it. Oh, that means I'll have to peek at it.

#94 by Mim

This is a Trumpet Honeysuckle. We see them growing here, climbing up telephone poles in alley ways. They're lovely. I'm enjoying getting back to drawing. I may have to do more of these.

I'm also preparing for our extended trip out of the country. I've cut out 25 postcard blanks in preparation. I hope I can keep doing this daily practice while traveling. Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, we're about to make a 2 hour drive to a gallery where my honey is having an opening of an exhibit of his works. Photos to follow!

#86 the letter "W" and a mail art call

One lonely "W" sitting on my work table and a book of commerative U.S. states flower stamps. Hmmm, hope there's a lily in the bunch. Yes, there was and now it's on this postcard. It works for me.
Cynthia at Carytown Optical is sharing temporary space with Carytown Teas (the only Op-TEA-cal shop in the world she told me,) was intrigued by the mail art that Patricia and Mistie were receiving. She asked me to do a mail art call for her. So here it is. Please send her some Mail Art. She's very excited to receive some.

Elflog - this morning

This morning, my little cousin and I put a pink ribbon on the shelf for his mom. We were really excited to see the new things. "Peace" in wire writing and a yellow flower on a stick. The little beads and things on the shelf itself had been rearranged. What a treat to see this shelf!

Elflog update & real small art

The New Shelf is still going strong. I posted on the post a small collage, which was gone in a day, which I liked, though no one comment on finding it on the Real Small Art blog. Oh well. I've started to write on stones again and put them out. The wire "writer" made a sweet little flower and wrapped it around the stone I made which says "art matters." I'd drawn a tiny flower on the stone, too. There's a chick on a stick, made out of metal, which i think is a garden ornament. The ribbon, the shell, the art postcard remain, real flowers get added, as well as small items. These pix were taken last Saturday. Since then a small plastic dish with beads in it has been added. It remains a very festive shelf and pole!

It's August already!!!

The summer is half way over, and glad about it. It's been so hot here and we look forward to cooler days.  I'm writing writing this...
