Musee du Quai Branly

I'd wanted to see the inside of this museum for awhile, but in the past lines were very long. We'd seen the unusual exterior and wondered how the exhibits would be handled inside. This really has to be seen because it's so unusual. My one view from above only give a hint at the unusual arrangements. There are so many artifacts, amazing ones, quite a collection. The special exhibits were very nice. One of Japanese design (including a grouping of Noguchi lamps which we love) with pottery, textiles, furnishings and even pieces by Charlotte Perriand influenced by Japanese design. The other special exhibit was on dyes and dying of cloth. This Tibetan garment is so lovely as are the earrings (origin, can't remember.) I enjoyed seeing the endless examples from all over the world and left with my brain full of ideas for what I might incorporate into my own work. Chuck wants that black and green Japanese pottery piece! He also wonders about the acquisition of all these artifacts. Hmmm.

isn't it the old musee de l'homme collection?
most of that stuff was plunder from the colonies.....
so there you are

How did I get into this?

I was asked when I started doing Mailart. Good question. Like many artists, I was making and mailing art without even knowing it had a name ...
